Murray
O’Laoire Architects has gained both a wide experience and
a detailed expertise from over 20 years of practice in all areas
of housing.
Our portfolio of completed housing projects ranges from single dwellings
to major housing developments and includes both low and high density
schemes. We have worked successfully with both private and public
sector clients, and have completed many housing projects throughout
Ireland and also internationally in Russia and Poland.
Our in-house expertise has been developed by our Housing Unit. This
expertise has been combined with expertise from our Urban Design
and Commercial Units to produce successfully integrated mixed-use
schemes.
Philosophy
Our housing design philosophy is focused on the needs of
the individual. The level of detail required to achieve a satisfactory,
comfortable and uplifting environment is very high. We focus on
this level of detail at all stages of the project from inception
to completion. Addressing all issues relating to quality, including
visual aspects, materials, services co-ordination and any budgetary
constraints.
Because housing forms the greater part of our built environment,
we are particularly conscious of our role in contributing positively
to the quality of our towns and rural areas. While the needs of
the individual are paramount, we are mindful of the needs of the
wider
community.
Therefore, we always seek to provide integrated and contextual
schemes that make a positive contribution to their immediate locality.
Experience
We have extensive and broad experience working with both public
and private sectors both in Ireland, and abroad in Russia and
Poland.
For the private sector, MOLA has successfully completed various
projects including apartment and housing schemes, and residential
schemes
as part of mixed housing and commercial developments. We have
also successfully delivered integrated infill urban schemes,
starter
homes, luxury houses, student accommodation, holiday villages
and golf villas.
For the public sector, we have worked closely with a number of
Local Authorities throughout the country on various schemes.
These projects
included some large housing schemes for South Dublin County Council,
and other Councils in Counties Clare, Limerick, Carlow and Meath.
Innovation
There is a great deal of scope for innovation in the design
and delivery of housing. The MOLA designed Green Building
in Temple
Bar, Dublin
has received national and international interest for its innovative
approach to energy saving stategies. We are working with Coillte
in developing an Irish prototype house that uses Austrian timber
frame factory built systems. Coillte are building a factory
in Ireland to produce these houses which have been specifically
designed for
the Irish market.
MOLA has also designed affordable apartment buildings that
use thermal mass and winter gardens for environmental control.
We have developed strategies for creating new streets and housing
on top of existing retail centres in Balbriggan and thereby
contributing to the urban linkages and rejuvenation of the
town centre.
