The MÓLA designed Sheraton Athlone Hotel opened for guests in April 2008.
This 170-bed, 11 storey tower affords spectacular views over Athlone with its historic castle, cathedral and churches, the River Shannon and surrounding counties of Westmeath, Roscommon, Offaly and Longford.
The hotel also features two restaurants, bars, a generous foyer and function rooms, a custom designed series of meeting/ seminar rooms and breakout spaces as well as a luxurious spa and leisure centre.
The new hotel is the central iconic element of the eight acre mixed-use redevelopment of the 108,390sq.m. Athlone Town Centre development that has transformed the town and the local skyline.
MOLA received the Urban Design Award from the Irish Planning Institute in April 2008 for its work on the new town centre. This is further recognition of the tremendous regeneration achievement that has resulted in successfully integrating the development with the existing town centre.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, General Manager Mark Long said:

“It has been a long journey bringing the hotel to the verge of opening, as we are now.  We are very fortunate to have such a forward thinking management team and such a formidable brand as Sheraton behind us, which we hope will ensure our success as we launch into the local market.”
