The University of Limerick, Pedestrian and Vehicular Access Bridge was awarded an honourable mention at the ECSN Awards for Excellence in Concrete 2006, presented in Brussels on October 13th 2006.
The project was previously awarded in the Infrastructure Category at the 2005 Irish Concrete Society Awards, and commended in the Architectural Association of Ireland Annual Awards 2005.

Architecturally, the bridge cross section was developed from the concept of a ‘salmon fish tail’ protruding from the surface of the flowing river. The design of this 150m-crossing is achieved in five spans. The bridge has separate vehicular and pedestrian and cycle decks and was constructed at a cost of €13 million.
It is a new and important link in the development of the University of Limerick and the expansion North Campus in County Clare. It is also the first vehicular bridge to be built between the counties of Limerick and Clare in almost 300 years.
The ECSN is the umbrella body for all the national concrete organisations in Europe, who promote concrete technology and use of concrete.
