Murray O'Laoire Architects has established a reputation for innovative and sustainable design in the specialised area of enterprise and research buildings. As part of the expansion of its economy over the past decades, Ireland, has seen a growth in the development of high technology and research facilities. MOLA has been in involved the planning and design of many of these facilities in both the private and the education sectors.

MOLA is also experienced in master planning the development of various enterprise projects including The Digital Hub, an Irish Government initiative to create an international research and development centre for various enterprises focused on digital content and technology enterprises in the centre of Dublin. We have also acted as master planners for Economic zones in Sudan and the IDA Business and Technology Park in Carlow.

MOLA’s award winning projects in this sector, include Leo Laboratories, RIAI Regional Award, Dublin, and Rottapharm Research Facility, Dept of the Environment & Local Government Award for Sustainability at the CIF Millennium Construction Excellence Awards.

MOLA’s experience in designing research facilities and in the third level education sector includes the DCU Science Research Facility & School of Engineering, a research 'flagship' acting as a gateway to the DCU campus; a Biosciences building for UCC, housing six post-graduate Bioscience Research departments and the UL Engineering Research Building which provides faculty and academic development offices for four different research groups in addition to undergraduate teaching facilities.
The GMIT Industrial Support Building, completed in 2004, incorporates an Industry Research & Development Unit, Industry Applied Consultancy Units, Innovation Units, Industrial Training Units and Administration Area and Ancillary spaces.

MOLA's Health Sciences Complex project for University College Dublin (illustrated) incorporates the design and integration of extensive laboratory and research facilities and strategic master planning so as to bring the four schools of the Faculty of Medicine together in a single complex and integrate them into the wider University.
Dr Philip Nolan, UCD Faculty of Medicine, described the development as " ...a landmark building, in the vanguard of educational innovation acting as an inspiration for its occupants, a focus for the professions, a resource for the community, and a model for similar developments internationally".
